All new MT Masking Tape pastel washi tapes are here.

About a fortnight ago, MT Masking Tape previewed their new line of Spring Summer washi tapes for 2016. All lined up like a candy coloured rainbow, the pastel tapes were an instant delight and we couldn’t wait for them to arrive.

Clockwise from top left : pastel yellow, pastel orange, pastel red, pastel pink, pastel purple, pastel blue, pastel powder blue, pastel mint, pastel green

All the new tapes are currently sitting pretty in the washi tape collection. There are 12 new pastel shades ranging from lemon yellows and powder blues to fresh greens and mints.

As with all mt masking tape, the tapes are made in Japan from a traditional ‘washi’ rice paper that’s easy to tear by hand and write on with a ballpoint pen.

Just the thing to add a fresh pop of pastel colour to your notebook or planner pages, these cute pastel washi tapes are just the thing for inspiring your creative side.

Along with the pastel washi tapes mt have also released a new line of deco tapes that are covered in patterns of tiny hearts. Cute, right?

You can check out all our mt masking tape washi tapes here in the shop.

DIY Washi Tape Christmas Gift Tags

My favourite kind of diy project is simple, quick and easy. It’s also useful when you don’t need too many supplies or you actually have them in your craft stash ready to go.

Being constantly surrounded by shiny gold and silver tapes, these diy washi tape Christmas gift tags were always on the cards. This is a great little diy that’s fun to make and helps you work your way through that endless washi tape mountain that you’ve accumulated.

Of course, the tapes can be swapped out for different colour schemes. Red and gold is great for a traditional look, blue and silver is super pretty, black and gold always looks luxe.

Supplies
How To:
  1. Draw or print out your templates. I pasted these templates onto a plain word doc and printed on white card: mitten, christmas tree, star.
  2. Cut out your templates.
  3. Trace around your template on a piece of card.
  4. Flip the card over and have fun covering with washi tapes.
  5. Flip the card back over (with the washi taped side on the back) and cut out your template shape.
  6. Use a hole punch to create a hole for twine or string.
  7. Voila! Scribble down your winter wishes and attach to gifts.

MT Masking Tape's AW15 collection is here and it's washi tape heaven.

MT Masking Tape have just dropped their latest designs for AW15 and as expected, they’re all completely lovely. As the original designer and inventor of washi tape as we know it, Kamoi Kakoshi’s MT Masking Tape line of washi tapes utilises high quality materials, vibrant colour ways and unique designs.

MT seem to have been inspired by geometric designs for their latest mt deco tape series. Triangles, circles and squares are all front and centre as mt goes crazy for colour and simple shapes with their new sankaku, shimasankaku and maru sankaku designs.

In green and red, MT’s line pattern designs have more loops than the Library of Birmingham. Pool blue and orange take cute pebble shapes and pepper them across washi tape for an instantly sweet design that would be brilliant for baby and spring-themed crafting.

Other favourites from the series are the gleaming gold and silver kirakira tapes, that are decorated with brightly coloured starbursts. Bonus…they’re just in time for the Christmas gift wrapping marathon.

Along with plethora of new deco patterns, mt masking tape have also refreshed their mt ex series of washi tape designs. Whoever came up with the idea of fusing spirograph with washi tape is a genius.

You can check out the full mt masking tape collection including these amazing new aw15 designs right here.

How to use washi tape in your notebook

Aside from crafting, scrapbooking and generally giving everything you own a colourful makeover, washi tape is also pretty handy for brightening up your notes.

When it comes to studying and revision, staring at a full page of text can be rather daunting. That's why masking tape is perfect for breaking up blocks of text into colour coded sections. This way, you can highlight key points and make important info a little easier to pinpoint and digest.

Try using washi tape in your notes for:

  • highlighting and underlining
  • dividing up sections
  • bullet points and shapes
  • labelling
  • bold headings
  • generally making your notes look awesome

Of course, standard sized 15mm mt tapes are also brilliant for making page tags. Here though, I wanted to show off how cool the less common 3mm tapes are.

About a year ago, mt masking tape expanded their line of thin washi tapes into a collection of five 3mm duos. As it’s the solid colour set, I’ve used the neons (set C). However, you could definitely use the patterned tapes for sectioning and borders too.

At the top of the page I’ve used a Uni Posca white pen on mt matte black washi tape for the label. The white pen paired with the black tape is perfect for getting that bold chalkboard look.

Excuse my messy writing and you’ll be able to spot that the mt slim 3mm neon tapes scattered throughout the page where they divide up sections and underline headings.

As we are using washi tape, mt’s 6mm tapes make for a cute decorative touch to further break up the text and make the whole thing look a lot less boring. Hooray for washi tape!

Watch MT Masking Tape Cover a Car in Washi Tape

Back in 2011, MT Masking Tape took a boat-load of washi tape to their Tokyo expo and proceeded to give an off-white Mini a very colourful makeover.

They covered the car and an accompanying truck from bonnet to bumper in vivid patterns and bright colours. It does look like it took the best part of a day even with the time-lapse, so let's hope that they stopped for some cutely packaged snacks here and there.

Honestly, who needs spray paint when you’ve got washi tape, eh?

The fantastic image above is from thegiftedblog, who wrote a great post about the expo.

Washi Tape Ideas : A DIY Notebook Cover

Makeovers with washi tape are wonderfully easy. Lurking at the back of my bookcase, I found an old notebook that was desperately in need of a new cover. After unpicking the stapled binding and cutting some white card to size, I realised that this was the perfect opportunity to let those mt ex washi tapes shine.

MT Masking Tape have a knack for producing the most interesting washi tape designs and the encyclopaedia range is no exception. Adorned with vintage-look text and illustrations, I'm completely in love with my new custom notebook. Pretty, no?
